Living Aura is an incomplete article, and should probably be looked at in the future. I'm just sayin'.
This page has a few asterisks that need linking. Gonna have to hop on that at some point, m8.

Living Aura is the defining force of all Auric beings in the universe. It allows them to manipulate natural forces around them to achieve the effect they desire. The practice of this is called magic. It was introduced to Dawngaea by the existence of the Progenitors and the transformation of the planet, but evolved on its own to the force that it is in present time.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Aura manifests itself as a normally invisible field of energy that isn't capable of being interacted with normally. In most cases, its effects can only be seen when magic is performed, and beyond its manifestations are functionally distinct from the natural phenomena of Natural Aura*.

The ability, or lack thereof, to perform magic is an inborn trait. As such, it is impossible for any being without a Living Aura to practice magic, and it is also considered impossible to gain a Living Aura artificially. A being's aura is much stronger after having used it to practice magic, and becomes steadily denser the more powerful and frequent their magical use becomes.

All Living Aura clings to the body of an Auric. When an Auric being is born, their body becomes a dense point where energy congregates, and thus will attract energy to them. The aura of a child normally stays stable until enough energy collects to condense the point in space where the Auric's body exists, in which case the aura will go from a benign to active state. This time and severity of this event* differs, as the rate of energy accumulation depends on the person. Following this event, the Auric's developmental process is able to begin in earnest.

This is around the point where an area of decreasingly powerful aura is created around the bearer, colloquially called a sphere of influence. Said sphere is an accurate measurement of where a user's aura can effect others, though it is not static. As aura capacity grows, the base of the sphere grows as well, and this is also the case as it shrinks. When in a state of symbiotic operation with aura, such as being in a state of flow, having more refined control - or alternatively, having a period of uncontrollable output - the size of a sphere can temporarily increase. Aura is most powerful and dense as one reaches the center of the sphere, and is less so as you travel outward.

When used, aura temporarily stops clinging to the body, but more often than not stays within the sphere of influence that the Auric individual has. The aura travels outward, and will stop at the edges of the sphere. Over time, it will collect itself back toward the user, which will replenish their power to perform their task.

Magic[edit | edit source]

The act of using Living Aura to manipulate the fabric of reality is called magic by the general populace. When used, it creates phenomena at the will of the user, which is often associated with the mystical.

When used, magic acts on both the body and mind for the user. Continued use invariably causes exhaustion when uninhibited, a necessary process to release the energy being exerted. Overuse of magic past the point of exhaustion has extreme levels of danger associated with it, such as the process of mage scarring*.

Magic is often called the power to "interface" with reality, and its process is described in three steps.

  • The user visualizes what they wish to be done.
  • The user's aura taps into their understanding of the process in question and will attempt to perform the operation.
  • The user will begin the output process, where their aura will begin to accumulate the power necessary to fulfill the operation.

At any point, the three steps may or may not be stopped.

Visualization[edit | edit source]

This is the least quantifiable part of the three step process, where it is solely dependent on the user's end to think in their minds what they wish to do. This is the easiest process to begin, as well as the most instinctual.

It is at this stage that the process begins, and it typically only takes the same amount of time that it takes for the brain to think.
